Raised in Southern Colorado, Derek grew up with music in
his bones. By the tender
age of 14, in addition to the opposite sex,
Derek found a keen interest in the bass
guitar and set out to master it. "Everyone
knows the key to a good song is the
rhythm section of the band and that chicks
like musicians, so why not have the best of
both worlds."
During his high school days he held down
the bottom end in a heavy metal band and
then during his college years he performed
in several "Jam" bands performing
anything from metal to classic rock to
blues, but growing up and being a product
of the rural ranch land of Southern
Colorado, country music has always been
in his blood.
Speaking of college, Derek attended the
University of Colorado where he double
majored in Political Science and
International Affairs before going on to
law school also at the University of
Colorado. Right after graduation he got
married to his High School sweetheart
and promptly moved to the Pacific
Northwest eventually settling in the
Bellevue area.

In the six plus
years since moving to the
Northwest he has performed with several
alternative country bands in addition to
performing at many open mic sessions.
Multi talented Derek not only plays a
solid bass, but he also plays acoustic guitar
and a mean banjo. "Joining Latigo Lace is
definitely a highlight for me and I look
forward to helping take this band to the
next level." When not working or
performing you can find Derek spending
quality time with his wife, Jacqueline, and
their two cats, Houdini and Ginger. |
