Emily Alfstad was born in Seattle, WA in
June of 1985. At an early age she started
expressing an interest in music, and by the
age of 7 she was a member of the
Northwest Girls Choir. She continued to
practice and perform with NW Girls choir
for the next four years, and over that
period of time it only became more obvious
that singing was not so much a hobby as a
passion. By the age of 11, Emily decided to
move on from Northwest Girls Choir and
explore other musical opportunities.

In the following year, Emily auditioned for
another performing group Vocalpoint!
Seattle, run by director Joseph Crnko.
Vocalpoint, an adjunct of the Northwest
Boychoir, combined a mix of Classical,
Rock & Roll, Soul, and Pop music into
regular performing opportunities
throughout each year. Emily was a
dedicated member of the group for the
entirety of her middle school and high
school years. “Vocalpoint will always be
a huge part of my life. If I had not found
such an amazing organization and such
great teachers, my experience as a
performer would be very different than it
is today.” Under the direction of Joe
Crnko, Emily grew as a singer, performer,
and musician. Through his guidance and
dedication, Emily decided to continue with
music in college.

During the course of her senior year in
high school, Emily studied and learned a
selection of classical voice repertoire in a
multitude of different languages. She also
starred in Bishop Blanchet's high school
musical, Over Here under the direction of
Moe Mershon. After auditioning for many
music conservatories nationwide, Emily
decided to move across the country to
New York to attend the Purchase College
Conservatory of Music. For her first two
years in college, Emily studied under
voice teacher Kaori Sato, and other
talented teachers such as Jacque Trussel
and Hugh Murphy.

During the summer between her
sophomore and junior years in college,
Emily moved back to Seattle for the
summer to attend classes at he University
of Washington to prepare for her next
year at Purchase College. Over the course
of the summer, Emily grew to love the
University of Washington and decided to
transfer. She withdrew from Purchase
after two great years and focused on
applying to UW. She auditioned for the
School of Music and was accepted in the
autumn quarter of 2005. Emily is currently
studying with voice instructor Juliana
Rambaldi, and plans to graduate in the
next year.

About six months after being accepted
into the University of Washington, Emily
got a call from and old friend and fellow
Vocalpoint! Seattle member Evan Shoop.
Evan called to invite her to audition with
Latigo Lace, and a week and a half later,
Emily was the newest member. “Latigo
Lace has truly been a blessing. The
opportunity could not have come at a
better time, and I could not have asked
for a better group of people to share this
experience with. I always think, ‘Man, I
would pay to do this. And honestly I would.
But heck, if they’re offering to pay me I’m
not gonna turn them down!’ But don’t tell
Mark our drummer that... he writes the
checks!”
